About 200 7th and 8th graders spent their lunch time racing around the 1-mile course in Edward Harris’ First Annual Turkey Trot.
These kids sprinted the first part of the race and left me in the dust …
I thought that I was going to be the last one to the finish line until I started passing them up.
I even stopped briefly for photos.
Slow and steady wins the race. OK, so I didn’t win but I made it to the finish line before a bunch of the kids. Many of them had a competitive spirit and sprinted when they saw me pass them. Little do they know — little spurts of sprinting ain’t gonna get you far. One student kept repeating, “I’m not going to let a teacher beat me!” as I jogged past him. He’d pick up the pace and passed me only to have me get in front of him again.
Here’s my gal pal Natalie. We crossed the finish line together — slow and steady as we passed the other racers and gave the crowds along the side-lines high fives.
Props to Mr. Williams and Ms. Bigley for organizing a great race today.
